                                         GHOFAT 2022

                                                          RETURN TO ULLESTHORPE

GHOFAT was last at Ullesthorpe in 2013, and our return this year proved it to be a popular and successful venue.

Our numbers were reduced from 18 to 16 due to the dreaded COVID striking down one member and one guest.

A rapid over night alteration to the running order on both days resulted in four four balls setting out to challenge the golf course on the first day with a grim determination and light heart in the sure knowledge that things would surely change.

Our four guests this year included part time Spaniards, Bob Fell and David Downes , Kevin Hemmingway, and Keith Simms, son in law to founder member Hugh Evans.

Following the days golf, a lively evening around the large dining table, with rowdy animated conversations was a great finish to an enjoyable day in the company of old friends and new acquaintances.

Day two golf began in fine weather, and luck was with us as it did stay fine all day. Some very reasonable scores were returned, the full results are following.

Generally the consensus of opinion was the the Hotel and staff looked after us very well, the golf course was in good condition and challenging enough for all us old farts.
RESULTS Day 1
Nearest the pin hole 9…………………………………..Keith Simms
Nearest the pin hole 12…………………………………David Downes
Nearest the line hole 11…………………………………Bob Fell
Bernadeutz Trophy……………………………………..Henry Knight winner - Bob Blake runner up.
It should be noted the Bob Fell scored 38 points, a winning score, but as a first year guest he is unable to take away any of the major trophies. Better watch him at GHOFAT 23!!

Results Day 2
Nearest the pin hole 9…………………………………...Bob Blake
Nearest the pin hole 12………………………………….Gordon Scott
Nearest the line ( longest drive today)…………………..Tony Slipper
Lensha Trophy………………………………………….Bob Blake winner - Gordon Scott runner up
Tosfac Trophy…………………………………………...Ray Woodcock winner - Les Vine runner up
GHOFAT TROPHY……………………………………..Tony Slipper winner - Gordon Scott runner up.
So that is it for another year, many thanks to all who turned up and special thanks to Grandads little helpers. Tony Slipper, John Billot, Gordon Scott, Henry Knight and Bob Blake.
Early in the New Year I will be canvassing for suggestions for a suitable venue for GHOFAT 23.
Maybe we just return to Ullesthorpe ?
Thats all folks - pip pip

To add to your enjoyment click on the little music thingy (bottom-right). Music by Head Honcho and the HEP Cats (featuring Les on the fiddle).  Nice!

A little known fact - the sadly recently departed Rolling Stones drummer paid tribute to Les in his last interview published in "East Midlands Lighting" saying in his early days of youth Les taught him all he knew, he even changed his name to Watts from Fingelstein for that reason. Despite that he took up drumming and Les's tuition was moot. Spooky?
