MATCH REPORT AND RESULTS

The return to Ullesthorpe. GHOFAT 23 saw our group return to last years venue for our annual two days of fun and games.

​

Our numbers were reduced once again from 21 to 13 due to health issues of varying forms, we wish our chums a quick recovery from whatever they are suffering with and hope to see them at GHOFAT 24.

 

We had two guests this year, another part time Spaniard Alan Hawkins, and veteran Belton Woods member Tony Willcox, who both battled for the guest prizes.

 

All our old friends and new aquaintences settled down for a lively dinner following a visit to the Hotel bar. It should be recorded that no one at all visited the Hotel gym to work out for the next day's golf!!

 

The weather was on our side for both days golf, so we had no excuses to use for poor results. Generally the consensus of opinion was that the Hotel and staff looked after us well, the golf course was in excellent condition and a challenge for us old farts.

It was noted that Alan Hawkins scored 41 points, but as a first year guest was not able to pick up the Bernadeutz Trophy.

His handicap was closely examined by Ken Smith !!

Note re TOSFAC Trophy Trouble at t’mill!!

Due to the incorrect score being recorded on Trevor’s score card, the initial winner was Bob Blake.

It was only after the results and awards were completed, and most people were on their way home, that Trevor announced that he had had a good day with 35 points! This did ring alarm bells in my head as I had only just completed the scores. Bob had already disappeared with the spoils of the contest.

A quick re-look at the scores confirmed that Trevor was in fact the winner!

 

Having explained the situation to the involved parties, a flurry of threatening E mails appeared with threats of litigation, and worse!

 

Pouring oil on troubled waters, and bribing certain members in the Legal profession the situation was brought under control.

 

Although GHOFAT is a society that considers the golf to be a secondary reason to meet up annually, if you have fought for, and won, fair and square one of the main Trophies, you deserve, and are entitled, to carry off the prize, and bask in the pleasant glory of success.

 

To that end, the TOSFAC trophy is being returned and shipped to the rightful recipient.
