MATCH REPORT AND RESULTS

 

Well apart from a small amount of misty rain on Monday,  the weather was kind to us and we all managed to complete the two days without too many complaints. The greens left a lot to be desired, most putts falling short on what seemed to be very tacky grass, and negotiating the many bare patches didn't get any easier as the days progressed.

​

We managed to sandbag a total of three guests to battle it out for the  booze and golf balls, Paul Burns and Ray Jolly both featuring, but with Peter Wilkins early unfortunate departure on Tuesday robbing him of an opportunity to challenge them on the second day, he left empty handed. 

​

Predictably Bob Blake picked up both days longest drive, leaving Ray Woodcock,Tony Slipper Henry Knight and John Billot as also rans.

​

Tony Slipper's efforts at the nearest-the-pin holes was thwarted on both days by Alan Lowen , Henry Knight and of course Bob Blake again. (Well done guys)

​

The newly introduced Par Three Challenge (supposedly to give the guests a chance to pick up a prize and favour the higher handicappers) was scooped up by winner Steve Hudson and second man Alan Lowen.

​

There was a special unscheduled award for the most entertaining hole of the two days. Picked up by Paul Burns having taken a 12 on the 18th par three hole, watched from the lounge bar by enthusiastic gallery shouting words of encouragement.

 

THE MAIN TROPHIES

 

HANCOCKS HALF HOUR

 

Featuring in the winners' ring on all four of the major trophies, John spent at least 30 minutes in the hand shaking and photograph department and made first place for the TOSFAC TROPHY.

Followed by Leslie Vine and Gordon Scott

SLIPPER SLIDES IN

Jan's selection of the four "secret holes" on each day suited Slipper it seems and he picked up the LENSHA TROPHY

Followed by John Hancock and Ray Woodcock.

 

VINE CREEPS OVER THE LINE

​

The coveted TIN CUP was a close run thing, just two points separating the three players with Vine taking the trophy

which is the BERNADEUTZ TROPHY.

Followed by  John Hancock ( that man again) and Ray Woodcock.

LOWEN RAISES THE BAR

Once again a close run thing with only two points separating the three positions. Alan Lowen was the winner of THE GHOFAT TROPHY, followed by Henry Knight and ( yes you have got it) John Hancock!

 

So ends yet another year of G H O F A T.

 

The Hotel looked after us well and there were no complaints regarding accommodation or food quality, we all seemed to enjoy the two days so it can be classed as a successful outing.

 

Many thanks to Santas Little Helpers, Steve Hudson marking the exam papers with help from Tony Slipper, Henry Knight collecting the cash, Colin Thornton sorting out score cards and handicaps,and John Billot deciphering the Par Three Challenge slips.

 

As always there will be lethal handicap cuts for any winners and runners up should they turn up for GHOFAT 19

​

Next years venue is to be decided, so any suggestions would be welcome. Hellidon is to undergo a major re build starting in November this year, so we have no idea as to when it would be available for an event.
